Cosmetic Injectables Q & A

What are cosmetic injectables?

There are two categories of injectables used to improve your appearance: dermal fillers and cosmetic injectables. All types of dermal fillers plump up wrinkles and restore fullness, while there are several cosmetic injectables that produce different results, including Botox®, fat injections, and nonsurgical rhinoplasty.

What is Botox and how does it treat facial wrinkles?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that blocks the nerve signals responsible for triggering muscle contractions. This makes Botox the perfect treatment for dynamic wrinkles, which develop as you repeatedly use the same muscles to make certain facial expressions. Botox injections can be used to treat:

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead furrows

When your provider at The Image Center injects Botox into a few carefully targeted muscles, the muscles relax, and the wrinkles they cause are smoothed away.

You’ll see the full effect of your Botox treatment in two to three days. The results last up to four months, then you can safely get another Botox treatment when the effect wears off.*

What is KybellaⓇ?

Kybella permanently eliminates submental fat, which is the excess fat under your chin. The primary ingredient in Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is naturally found in your body.

Deoxycholic acid normally breaks down dietary fat when you digest foods. When it’s injected under your chin, it breaks down fat cells, then your body naturally clears away the waste so the fat is gone for good.

What is a fat injection?

Fat injection refers to a treatment called fat grafting or a fat transfer. During this procedure, Dr. Newen removes fat from one part of your body, meticulously processes the fat to remove cellular debris, then injects the purified fat into another body area.

Fat injections are used to add volume and to augment parts of your body. Dr. Newen often injects fat into:

  • Lips
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Under your eyes
  • Cheeks
  • Temples
  • Buttocks

You can expect to lose about half of the injected fat in three to six months. The fat that remains is considered to be permanent. However, all the fat on your body, including grafted fat, naturally diminishes as you get older. As a result, you may need repeat injections down the road.

What is nonsurgical rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is typically done as a surgical procedure to reshape your nose. A nonsurgical rhinoplasty recontours your nose using an injectable dermal filler.

Dermal fillers effectively produce results such as:

  • Diminishing a bump on the bridge of your nose
  • Filling in a flat bridge, scar, or other depression
  • Correcting the angle of a crooked nose
  • Lifting the tip of your nose

The team at The Image Center often use Radiesse® for nonsurgical rhinoplasty procedures. Radiesse immediately fills in the targeted area and promotes collagen production, creating results that last about 8-12 months.*
